BEGINNER FARRIER ARTS #101
TWO WEEK COURSE: $1,000
This course will provide students with the fundamental anatomy of the horse's foot and knowledge of the leg from the knee and hock down. This course will teach the clinical terminology of the relevant anatomical parts to most lamenesses, as well as the layman terms for those parts. Students will learn proper hoof trimming techniques including balance, leveling and hoof form. Students will learn shoe finishing techniques including boxing, safeing, seating and leveling of the shoe. There will be forging exercises to familiarize students with fundamental techniques to modify manufactured shoes. Students will be instructed to perform shoe application. Time will be dedicated to working actual horses to provide more confidence in the skills taught in this course.
INTERMEDIATE FARRIER ARTS #102
TEN WEEK COURSE: $5,000
In this course students will gain experience working on live horses in the field side by side with an experienced farrier. Students will be taught to create a working business model to help begin a personal practice. This course includes dissection clinics and illustrations to give students a more advanced understanding of anatomy of the entire thoracic and pelvic limbs as well as other significant structures of the equine anatomy. Students will gain familiarity with all the common lamnesses of the horse and learn to perform lameness evaluations and to apply therapeutic correction applications. The course will teach modifications appropriate for application in the field.
ADVANCED FARRIER ARTS #103
SIXTEEN WEEK COURSE: $8,000
This comprehensive course includes everything from curriculums 101 and 102, above that students will be exposed to all clinics, competitions, and labs offered during their time attending the course. It is intended to fully provide students with the knowledge and skills to begin their own small business or enable them to hone their skills through an apprenticeship with a farrier who specializes in a particular discipline of shoeing. This is the most intense study of farrier sciences. It will equip students with the necessary knowledge to begin their journey toward starting a small personal businesses or to begin apprenticeship to hone skills for more specific disciplinary skills in the farrier arts. If attending this course, membership in both local and national farrier associations are strongly encouraged. Subscribing to literature about the trade is also highly recommended.
